Recent Parody Movies: Are They Really Providing LOL Moments?

Parody movies have always interested me in a strange way; which means, I have a hard time figuring out if like them or I not. They make absolutely no sense; the humor is not anywhere close to intelligent. Basically, they do nothing to stir one’s gray cells at all. May be this is why people don’t really take spoofs or parody films seriously at all. But even then, if you consider the business they do, it is not really too bad. These movies are actually quite profitable. So, are there really any good parodies or spoofs at all?

Some of the recent parody films or spoofs, that have caught my attention are ‘Disaster Movie’, ‘Superhero Movie’, ‘Epic movie’ etc. They have tried to make fun of literally everything that this generation has been obsessed with. ‘Superhero movie’ for instance made fun of all the superheroes in recent films, and how! I don’t know about others but I hardly found it funny more than in one or two instances. The rest was a little too dumb to suit my taste.

In this context, there are some other older but better parodies that deserve mention. For example ‘Scary Move’ first part, ‘Austin Prowess International Man of Mystery’ ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights’ etc. Even a spoof should make some sense. The recent ones look a little like they are trying too hard to make people laugh. That technique may squeeze one of two sniggers out of people, but generally do not encourage full blown laughter.

Even as I say that recent parodies are not good enough, I can’t help mentioning one that I found quite funny. Of course, one of the reasons for that might be that, the movie spoofed was itself a little funny if you think about it. Yes, I’m talking about the spoof on Twilight. ‘Vampires Suck’ took full advantage of people getting tired of seeing vampires everywhere, from movies to television series.

Keeping that in mind, this parody does manage to twist the ideas of ‘Twilight’, enough to make it look quite funny. For example, Jacob in the movie turns into a little dog instead of a growling werewolf. Edward on the other hand keeps touching up his make-up. Even fans of the ‘Twilight’ series will probably find this one worth watching. So yes, I will admit that even a couple of recent parodies do manage to be funny. But let us not forget that the movie spoofed, i.e. ‘Twilight’, has been spoofed multiple times inside most of our heads.
So, let us end with the hope that we get to see some really standard parodies in the near future.
